These days in modern mainstream U.S. culture there is often a huge gap in postpartum care. Many people no longer have built in “villages” available to help during this challenging transition, whether due to demanding schedules, estrangement, or physical distance. Visitors and loved ones may be so excited about the arrival of the baby that parents are left feeling forgotten and overwhelmed, not to mention having to navigate competing advice and suggestions.

As a postpartum doula, my main goal is to help parents feel confident and able to follow their intuition. I’ll do what I can to take things off your plate and encourage rest so that you can focus on bonding with your new baby. I’ll be there alongside you as your advocate, confidante, and cheerleader.

Here’s what I can offer as a postpartum doula:

  • Postpartum can often be really tough physically, mentally and emotionally. This applies to both those who gave birth as well as partners. My aim is to be a safe space for you to vent and talk things through. I’ll provide lots of positive affirmation as well as quiet listening. You can always come to me with questions, and if I am not confident in an answer I will know who or where to point you to for the best information.

  • Household maintenance can begin to feel really overwhelming when you have an infant! I love to help by tidying up and completing tasks such as laundry, organization, and grocery shopping.

Nutrition is also a huge part of postpartum recovery - I would love to help prepare nourishing and comforting meals + snacks to sustain you.

  • I will always encourage you to prioritize rest when possible, and am more than happy to watch over your little one(s) while you take a moment for yourself - whether it’s a nap, a shower, or an outing with friends.

  • I want to help you integrate your new baby into your family in an intentional, loving, and gentle way. I could support with developing/exploring traditions, facilitating a postpartum ritual/ceremony, planning a “nesting party”, or just helping you build a network of care with extended family and friends (while always acting as your advocate in regards to rest and boundaries). I can also work with you to prepare older siblings and make sure they feel included and special!

  • I’ve created a small binder of the best resources for postpartum parents, including local support groups and practitioners. I’ve been trained to identify situations that might require outside help, and will work to ensure you get timely referrals should any issues arise.

  • As part of my services I can facilitate the use of common & safe herbs for preventative or supportive postpartum care. This would likely include teas and gentle sitz and foot bath infusions. I am a beginner herbalist and will only introduce herbal support at your request.

What a Postpartum Doula Cannot Do

A postpartum doula is a generalist, not an expert. We follow a standard of practice and code of ethics which specifies that we cannot complete medical or clinical tasks of any kind, including diagnosing, prescribing, or performing exams.

Cost Transparency

I believe that investing in postpartum support is one of the best things you can do for your family, but I know that many folks are struggling to make ends meet. For this reason, I plan to offer a sliding scale hourly rate between $30-$50/hour. In special cases, I can offer a discounted rate - please reach out if cost is prohibitive but you feel we would be a good match.

Because I am currently looking for three clients to fulfill my support experiences for certification through DONA, I will be offering a reduced rate of $20/hour.

I highly encourage expecting parents with supportive loved ones to include a postpartum doula in their registry to help alleviate the cost burden.
